Thirteen-year-old Alex began drum lessons at Music & Rock School nearly a year and a half ago. In that time, he’s gained a reputation as a student who jumps at the chance to perform and play with other students. Alex participates in the Master Class every two months and has performed in every concert since starting at MARS. He also played at this year’s Jazzfest in downtown Apex with his MARS student group, Feedbakk.
One quick look at Alex’s repertoire of songs and you can clearly see his eclectic music tastes. His all-time favorite song to play is “Refrigerator Car” by the Spin Doctors, but lately he’s been listening to a lot of Muse and says that the next song he would like to learn how to play is the band’s “Newborn”. Ask him about his musical influences and the list includes bands like Nirvana, Queens of the Stone Age and Smashing Pumpkins. “I enjoy learning different genres during lessons,” Alex says, “And getting to play and perform with other students is always fun.”
“Alex is focused, dedicated and always ready to learn – overall, a great student,”says his instructor Theous. “His approach behind the drum set is really impressive, and he already sounds like a seasoned professional drummer on certain things he plays. It’s incredible that at such a young age he’s showing that kind of progress.”
We have no doubt that Alex will continue to improve even further in his lessons. He has even recently expressed interest in becoming a multi-instrumentalist and learning how to play the bass! In the meantime, check out this video of Alex rocking out!
