Have you ever wondered how rock singers can scream for an entire concert and NOT lose their voice? The answer is proper training in their voice lessons. If a singer screams the wrong way, they'll constantly lose their voice, tear up their vocal chords and potentially cause themselves permanent damage. If they scream the right way, they'll improve their singing technique and be able to scream night after night, worry free!
I'm excited to announce that Music & Rock School now has a vocal coach who's been trained both classically, and in the proper techniques of screaming and rock vocals.
Ian Lear-Nickum was the lead singer and guitarist for the major-label band Vaeda, until he recently moved to the Raleigh area. His classical voice training comes from growing up singing in choirs and taking private voice lessons. Ian's rock and scream training comes from private lessons with Melissa Cross, the rock industry's leading voice coach. In addition to Ian, Melissa's long list of students include Courtney Love, Andrew W. K., Coheed and Cambria, Maroon 5, Bullet For My Valentine, Lamb of God, and the list goes on and on.
Singing rock vocals is a delicate balance of proper technique and emotion. If a singer is at all interested in rock vocals, an understanding of the techniques involved in screaming and adding "gritty-ness" to your voice are tremendously important to protect their vocal chords.
You can hear how Ian has applied his classical training with his scream training on the Vaeda tracks below. In addition to vocal coaching, Ian is also available for guitar lessons at Music & Rock School.
