Summer Rock Camp

                                               **2012 Registration is now OPEN!**

CONCEPT: Crash Course in Rock ā€˜n’ Roll is a 2-week intensive rock camp designed to provide interaction between young musicians in a real-life band situation.  Campers will work together as a band, choose a band name, select and arrange songs, write music, and learn how to promote their group.  The experience will culminate with a live concert performance for friends and family to see what the future of Rock ā€˜n’ Roll looks and sounds like!

CAMPERS: Camp is open to students of guitar (acoustic and electric), bass, drums, keyboard, and voice ages 12-16.  Participants should have prior experience playing their instruments (understand the basics and have the ability to perform complete songs).  You DO NOT  need to be enrolled in weekly lessons at Music & Rock School to participate.

CONTENT: Topics discussed during rock camp include, but are not limited to:

  • Song selection and arranging
  • Song writing
  • Professionalism and stage presence
  • Marketing and promoting your band
  • Instrument coaching

DATES and TIMES: Crash Course will meet the weeks of July 16th through July 27th.  Two sessions are offered this year:

Session 1: Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:30am to 11:30am

Session 2: Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00am to 1:00 pm

The concert performance will be Sunday, July 29th at 6:30 pm at Tir Na Nog in Raleigh.  Space is limited to ensure that bands function and perform like real rock bands.   Additional sessions may be added to accommodate increased enrolment.

LOCATION: Crash Course sessions will be conducted at Music & Rock School, 132 Salem Towne Court, Apex, NC 27502.  The concert will be at Tir Na Nog Irish Pub, located at 218 S. Blount Street, Raleigh, NC 27601 (www.tirnanogirishpub.com).  Tir Na Nog has a full menu of great food.

COST and COMMITMENT: Early registration by May 14 is $300.  Registration after May 14 is $325.  Registration closes on Monday, June 18th!  Because each member becomes an integral part of their band, please be certain that campers can commit to the sessions AND the final performance.  Due to the band dynamic, we will be unable to honor refunds.

ABOUT THE COACH, WILLIAM DAWSON: As a former member of international touring act Squirrel Nut Zippers, and current elementary school music teacher in Hillsborough, William Dawson is the perfect mentor for students enrolled in Crash Course.  William has worked with hundreds of professional musicians in every aspect of the music industry -- touring, recording, songwriting, and promotion.  He currently fronts his own band, The Alkazar Hotel, and performs with Katherine Whalen's Lucky.  In addition to his day job as a school music teacher, William has years of experience coaching young musicians through lessons, in both private and group sessions.

QUESTIONS: Please direct questions and inquiries to John Kozicki via e-mail at john@musicandrockschool.com or via phone at 919-924-0425.
